Betty B. Elrod is an interdisciplinary artist and designer whose work spans a variety of mediums, including performance art, sculpture, and jewelry design. A graduate of the College of Charleston in South Carolina, she studied both studio art and art history, grounding her practice in a deep understanding of visual communication and artistic traditions.

Throughout her career, Betty has exhibited her work across the United States, from San Francisco to Charleston, SC. Her practice is known for its dynamic approach, incorporating abstract compositions with figurative elements to explore themes of identity, form, and perception. Whether through large-scale sculpture installations, temporary works, or collaborative performances, her work invites viewers to engage in a dialogue between the physical and the conceptual.

A lifelong lover of nature and animals, Betty is deeply inspired by the natural world. Her appreciation for the environment often informs her artwork, particularly in the way she approaches organic forms and textures. She has also practiced landscape photography, capturing the beauty and raw energy of the world around her, which influences her approach to sculpture and design.

In 2025, Betty celebrated the opening of her first physical location 10 minutes from Downtown Nashville, TN in the beautiful historical Germantown. The contemporary boutique offers her one-of-a kind jewelry pieces, custom design services and repair, a jewelry workshop, and other accessories, clothing and special gifts for every occasion.

In 2017, Betty expanded her creative output with the launch of Blue Smoke Jewelry (bluesmokejewelry.com), a collection of custom, handcrafted jewelry. Her designs, crafted from sterling silver and 14k gold, are distinguished by the use of semi-precious gemstones and a sculptural, abstract aesthetic. Each piece is a unique expression of the artist’s commitment to craftsmanship and beauty, blending artistry with wearable design.

As she continues to evolve her dual practice, Betty is actively pursuing both her visual arts and jewelry design, with upcoming exhibitions and collections slated for 2025. Her work, which bridges the worlds of fine art, craftsmanship and jewelry, reflects her passion for innovation, nature, and her ability to bring the abstract into tangible forms.

“As a 5th generation retailer, fashion has been such a big part of my life. From a very young age, creativity, art and design has always been my passion. After studying sculpture and painting and working as a marketing professional for design firms, I decided to fuse my corporate skills with my artistic talents to launch Blue Smoke fine jewelry. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, handmade, and given very special care and attention. Treat yourself!” Betty B.
